Donald Trump Jr. he explained in a text message last year to the then White House chief of staff mark meadows how to take “operational control” of the presidency for his father, the president donald trumpjust after the 2020 elections, CNN reported Friday.

The former president’s eldest son cared little about how Americans voted, according to messages he sent to Meadows that were reviewed by CNN. He pointed to Republican majorities in the Senate and swing state legislatures that could be used to wrest control of the election from voters.

“It’s very simple,” he allegedly sent a text message two days after the presidential election, before the vote was officially called. Joe Biden. “We have multiple paths. We control them all.”

He suggested a series of steps Trump’s allies were already developing to change the election results should Trump lose. They included demands to block the results and press state lawmakers to demand recounts and come up with a list of bogus voters who would support Trump, against voters’ wishes.

Trump Jr. argued to Meadows that ultimately Republican lawmakers could simply vote to keep Trump in the White House, CNN reported.

“We have full leverage operating control,” his message insisted, according to CNN. “Moral High Ground POTUS must start second term now.”

Trump Jr.’s attorney, Alan S. Futerfas, said in a statement to CNN that his client was likely sending Meadows a message that had been written by someone else, though he did not say who.

“After the election, Don received numerous messages from supporters and others. Given the date, this message likely originated from someone else and was forwarded,” Futerfas told CNN.

A number of points from Trump Jr.’s text were detailed in the call “hit notes” written by a far right lawyer John Eastmana key strategist on how to seize the White House for Trump.

Last month, US District Judge David Carter wrote in a decision that he believed the former president and Eastman had launched a “campaign to nullify a democratic election – an action unprecedented in the history of the United States.” Carter referred to it as an attempted “coup” and said it was “more likely that President Trump would attempt to corruptly obstruct the Joint Session of Congress on January 6, 2021” to prevent his loss from becoming official. .

Carter ordered Eastman to release 101 emails I had written on the subject to the House Select Committee investigating last year’s January 6 insurrection, ruling that Eastman had not made a sufficient claim of attorney-client privilege. The committee received the emails earlier this week.
