COVID-19 Vaccines: 18% of Ottawa Children Ages 5-11 Receive First Dose – Ottawa | The Canadian News

Nearly 14,000 Ottawa children received their first shots of the COVID-19 vaccine in their first week of eligibility, according to the local health unit.

Ottawa Public Health’s COVID-19 panel reports that 13,887 children ages five to 11, representing 18 percent of the total age group in the city, received their initial vaccinations as of Wednesday morning.

Ottawa Health Medical Officer Dr. Vera Etches said earlier this week that 40 percent of local children in this younger eligible demographic have appointments booked through the provincial immunization system. This does not take into account vaccines booked in pharmacies or doctor’s offices.
