Covid-19 rebounds: four states fall back to yellow

The federal Ministry of Health (SSA) announced this weekend the changes in the epidemiological risk traffic light of Covid-19 where it was observed that five states in the north of the Republic were located in yellow.

In Baja California Sur, Chihuahua, Coahuila and Sonora there was an upturn of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, with which they fell from green traffic light (low risk) to yellow (medium).

For its part, Baja California also changed color, although in a positive sense, since it went from orange (high risk) to yellow (medium).

With the above results, from November 29 to December 12, 27 of the 32 states will be on a green traffic light, that is, with a low risk of contagion, without any of them turning orange (high risk) or in red (maximum risk).

The states that remain in a green epidemiological traffic light are: Mexico City, which already has eight consecutive weeks in low risk, Chiapas, Oaxaca, Guerrero, Quintana Roo, Zacatecas, Durango, Sinaloa, Nuevo León, Tamaulipas, San Luis Potosí, Veracruz, Puebla, Hidalgo, Tlaxcala, State of Mexico, Nayarit, Michoacán, Jalisco, Querétaro, Morelos, Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatán, Colima, Guanajuato and Aguascalientes.

New variant

It was last weekend when the World Health Organization (WHO) declared Ómicron a variant of concern for his multiple mutations.

“Preliminary evidence suggests an increased risk of reinfection with this variant, compared to others,” said the WHO.

In the case of Mexico, last week, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) warned about the need to vaccinate the entire population, to face a fourth wave of infections.

“Mexico has made a very important effort to vaccinate its population. Mexico already has 50% of the entire population with two doses, it is an important vaccination coverage, but it is still not enough to guarantee that the country cannot have other outbreaks.

“It is necessary to continue with vaccination, achieve higher vaccination coverage, protect everyone with the complete scheme,” said Jarbas Barbosa, deputy director of PAHO.

The international official also stressed that in order to have protection against the SARS-CoV-2 virus, it is essential to have the complete vaccination scheme, either one or two doses depending on the brand of the biological supplied.
