COVID-19: Peterborough Area Reports 18 Active Cases, Including 3 Hospitalizations – Peterborough | The Canadian News

Peterborough Public Health reported four new COVID-19 cases on Friday afternoon as the number of active cases saw a slight increase.

Other data from the regional health unit on Friday:

  • Sprouts: None active. Since the pandemic began, the health unit has treated 340 cases associated with 58 outbreaks.
  • Cumulative confirmed cases: 1,962 since the pandemic was declared in March 2020.
  • Deceased: 24: The last death was reported on October 30.
  • Variants of cases of concern: 1,152 – unchanged since Thursday’s update. The first variant case was reported on February 23 and the first confirmed Delta variant case was reported on June 19.
  • Resolved cases: 1920: two more cases since Thursday’s update. Resolved cases represent approximately 97.8% of all cases.
  • Close contacts: 122, down from 133 reported Thursday. People who are close contacts must self-isolate for 14 days from the last time they had contact with a person infected with COVID-19.
  • Hospitalizations: 92 cases have required hospitalization since the pandemic began. Peterborough Regional Health Center on Friday reported three active COVID-19 admissions. Hospitalized cases represent approximately 4.7% of all cases; 20 of the cases required the intensive care unit. Admissions to the ICU represent one percent of all cases in the health unit since the start of the pandemic.
  • Exposure to COVID-19: 75% of all cases (1,472) in the jurisdiction of the health unit are due to contact with another existing case, 20.3% (399 cases) are related to community spread, 3.9% (76 cases ) are related to travel and 0.8% (15 cases) have not yet been determined.
  • Tests: More than 64,500 people have been tested for COVID-19, an additional 150 since Thursday’s update.
  • App: Since October 1, five charges have been filed against a total of three companies under the Ontario Reopening Act. The health unit last updated the page on October 28.

The Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board reported an active case among its schools within the health unit’s jurisdiction, the Prince of Wales Public School in Peterborough, remains unchanged as of Wednesday. The school board handles another 21 cases in nine other schools outside the jurisdiction of the health unit. The school board does not say whether the cases involve students or staff.

Peterborough Catholic District School Board Victoria Northumberland Clarington reported Two active cases between schools within the health unit’s jurisdiction – St. Anne Catholic Elementary School and St. Paul Catholic Elementary School, both in Peterborough, remain unchanged as of Wednesday. Both schools remain open. The school board handles seven other cases in four other schools outside the jurisdiction of the health unit. The school board does not indicate whether the cases involve students or staff

Trent University reported there are no active cases on its Peterborough and Durham campuses as of Friday afternoon, down from an active case reported Wednesday on the city’s campus. The university reports that 96 percent of students (up to one percent) and 97 percent of employees (no change) are fully vaccinated and three percent of students and zero percent of staff are partially vaccinated, both unchanged.

Fleming College has not reported any cases on its Peterborough campus. The university will resume classes and in-person services in January 2022.

All medical tests and evaluations for COVID-19 in Peterborough are now consolidated at the Peterborough Regional Health Center assessment center at 1 Dr. Hospital Appointments must be booked online.

Several Peterborough and area pharmacies offer vaccinations to eligible recipients. An appointment is required and can be done by calling the respective pharmacies or visiting the Ontario government website.
