The health crisis did not take a break on Monday as Canadians were called to the polls. Quebec and Ontario have each reported more than 600 new cases of coronavirus disease.

Quebec has identified 679 additional patients, as well as one other death. Hospitalizations continued to increase (280, +3) as well as the number of patients requiring acute care (92 +5).
Now, 83% of Quebecers are adequately vaccinated, although vaccination seems to be slowing down, at least on Sunday, when that day 2786 people received a first dose and 5039 got their second dose.
“100% of new entrances to intensive care are unvaccinated people”, simply indicated on Twitter the Minister of Health and Social Services, Christian Dubé.

In Ontario, 610 new cases and two deaths were reported on Monday. Of these infections, 458 are linked to people not fully immunized. Unlike Quebec, hospitalizations have decreased in Ontario (233, -12), including in intensive care (177, -5).
Daily record in New Brunswick and return of the mask
In New Brunswick, where the wearing of a mandatory mask in indoor public spaces was added on Monday to the health rules that will come into force on Wednesday – after a relaxation of a few weeks -, there have been 199 new cases since Friday, including a daily record of 75 cases on Sunday.
The province had already announced that people would be required to present proof of vaccination as of Wednesday, at certain places and events, as is the case in Quebec and soon in all Canadian provinces.
“New Brunswickers must act urgently, regardless of their immunization status, to slow the spread of COVID-19,” Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Jennifer Russell said in a statement.
“As transmission increases, we need to take this extra step to make indoor public places safe for everyone,” she continued, speaking of the face covering. We must all continue to respect public health measures to protect ourselves and our loved ones, and the most important of these measures is to get vaccinated. “
Nothing is going well in Alberta
In the west, British Columbia added 1,692 new cases of COVID-19 and 11 more deaths over the weekend, while Alberta has recorded 4,633 new cases and 22 deaths since Friday.
As of Monday, 954 Albertans were hospitalized for treatment for COVID-19, including 216 in intensive care. The basic intensive care units in the province have a capacity of 173 beds.
Health authorities said they had added 322 intensive care beds and 49 additional spaces dedicated to these units. The number of intensive care patients has increased by 13% in the past seven days and 91.2% of patients hospitalized in these units are not or partially vaccinated, Dr Deena Hinshaw explained on Twitter Monday.
Elsewhere in Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador (15 cases) and Nova Scotia (55 cases) have also updated their data. In Manitoba, 156 cases have been recorded since Friday, but 10 were deleted after investigation. Saskatchewan has announced 519 new cases of COVID-19 and 2 more deaths.
