The mayor of Quebec supports his counterpart in the metropolis, Valérie Plante, who is asking the government for a deconfinement schedule for event and cultural revival.

Montreal Mayor Valérie Plante has called for a “comprehensive reopening plan” in a bid to give organizers “predictability”. The revival of events and culture and that of congresses are important for the metropolis, she said on the airwaves of LCN, because competition from other cities is fierce and major investments are at stake.

The mayor of Quebec, Bruno Marchand, agrees. The two elected officials agree on the importance of health measures to stem the pandemic, but they want clarity on the stages of deconfinement to come.
“There is an importance to this request from Valérie Plante, especially in the competition with other cities in the world, which may not have the same strategies and the same restrictions. There is an expectation that the government can communicate a plan for lifting the restrictions.”
Avoid backtracking
He warned: “We have to make sure that we don’t go back. The citizens have the same wish. […] It’s gonna be worse. But I think the government can provide predictability and the more we can do it, making sure we don’t go back, I think that’s the best formula.
In addition, he reiterated the importance of the return of sport and leisure activities for young people, a speech he has been making for a few weeks.
