On Monday, the province reported that there were 519 people in the hospital, a decrease of 35 from Friday. There was also a decrease of 10 ICU patients, with 100 currently admitted.

The 100 Albertans in the ICU is the lowest since the province reported 98 in the ICU on Aug. 30.

Alberta reported 1,068 new COVID-19 cases over the weekend: 286 cases on Friday, 353 on Saturday, and 429 on Sunday.

While hospitalizations and the number of ICUs continued to decline in the province, active COVID-19 cases saw a small rebound. There are 5,828 active cases in Alberta, an increase of 83 from Friday’s numbers.

The Calgary area has 1,848 active cases and the Edmonton area has 1,249.

Another 17 deaths were reported Monday.

Albertans continue to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, with 87.8% of those 12 and older receiving at least one dose and 82.2% of those who qualify are fully vaccinated.

With more Albertans becoming eligible for a booster shot last week, the province has administered a total of 322,878 third-dose COVID-19 vaccines.

Last Monday, the province announced that those over 70, along with First Nations, Inuit and Métis who are 18 years or older, were able to reserve a booster shot if they received their second dose at least six months ago.

QR codes are required for proof of vaccination

Monday was the first day Albertans were asked to use a QR code as proof of vaccination; paper records are no longer accepted.

QR codes will be required to access restaurants, gyms, movie theaters, and other enclosed venues that participate in Alberta’s restriction waiver program, which requires customers to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
