COVID-19: HKPR reports deaths in Kawartha Lakes, Northumberland County; 22 cases in hospital – Peterborough | The Canadian News

The Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit has reported two more deaths and 26 new laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19, according to data released Tuesday afternoon.

The regional health unit’s dashboard around 14:35 reported the following:

New laboratory-confirmed cases: 26 since Monday’s update – 10 in Kawartha Lakes, 15 in Northumberland County and one in Haliburton County.

Active laboratory-confirmed cases: 370 – lower of 395 reported Monday. The health unit notes due to changes in provincial testing guidelines, the number of active cases is an “underestimation” of community distribution.

Deaths: 87 – Two more single deaths have been reported since Monday in Kawartha Lakes and Northumberland County. Since the pandemic was declared, the health unit has reported 65 deaths in the town of Kawartha Lakes, 21 in Northumberland County and one in Haliburton County.

Cases in the hospital: 22 people are currently in hospital – two less than Monday’s update. Nine of the cases are in an intensive care unit – one less since Monday. There have been 157 cumulative cases in hospital since the pandemic was declared (three more): 85 in the Kawarthas (another), with 67 in Northumberland (two more) and five in Haliburton County (unchanged). From Tuesday afternoon, Ross Memorial Hospital in Lindsay reported seven hospitalized cases (unchanged) with six identifying COVID-19 as the “primary cause of admission”. (unchanged).

Cumulative cases: 5,823 since the onset of the pandemic: 20 pending with 2,798 in the Kawarthas (48.3 percent), 2,678 in Northumberland County (46.1 percent) and 327 in Haliburton County (5.7 percent).

Resolved cases: 5,379 – an additional 64 since Monday’s update. The settled cases make up about 92.3 percent of all cases.

A list of dates and times is available on the health unit www.hkpr.on.ca. Residents are also encouraged to check with local pharmacies or their primary health care providers for more opportunities to be vaccinated.

The health unit only reports outbreaks at “high-risk institutions”. As of Tuesday afternoon, there are 24 active outbreaks – unchanged since Monday – which include the following (unless stated, case data is not available):

  • Central East Correctional Center: Declared January 17th. Outbreaks were reported as “multiple units”. The province reported on January 23 28 cases among prisoners (most recent data).
  • Transitional home shelter in Cobourg: Declared 17 January. Northumberland County, which runs the shelter, reported five cases on Jan. 17: two customers and three staff members.
  • Christian Horizons in Lindsay. January 14 declared.
  • Extend Cobourg in Cobourg: Declared 11 Jan
  • Community Living Group House in Campbellford: declared January 11th.
  • Northumberland Hills Hospital in Cobourg: January 10 declared in an inpatient rehabilitation unit.
  • William Place Retirement Home in Lindsay: Declared 10 Jan.
  • Community Living Group Home Cobourg: January 7 declared.
  • Caressant Care Retirement Home in Lindsay: Declared January 6th. The home reported on January 19 10 active cases: eight residents and two staff members (most recent data).
  • Victoria Manor Home for the Elderly in Lindsay: Declared 6 Jan.
  • Christian Horizons Site D in Cobourg: declared on 5 January.
  • Community Living Group Home – Warkworth: January 5 declared.
  • Case Manor Long Term Nursing Home in Bobcaygeon: Declared 4 January, the house reported at 10:50 a.m. Tuesday no active cases (of five on Monday) after one resident and four staff members were resolved. 14 cases were settled (two residents and 12 staff members).
  • Regency long-term care in Port Hope: Declared 4 January. The facility on Tuesday reported 17 active cases – down from 21 Monday – 14 residents and three staff members (four less). All were fully vaccinated.
  • Caressant Care Marystraat long-term care in Lindsay: January 2 declared with three staff positive cases. On January 24 the house reports 19 active businesses – two residents (24 resolved) and 17 staff (42 resolved). The house also reported its third resident death. Two residents’ deaths were reported on January 14.
  • Warkworth Place long-term care in Warkworth: declared on 31 December 2021.
  • Caressant Care McLaughlin long-term care in Lindsay: Declared 30 December 2021. The home reported on January 21 21 active cases – 13 residents and eight staff members. A resident death was reported on January 12 amid the outbreak.
  • Hope Street Terrace long-term care in Port Hope: Declared home on 28 December 2021 on Tuesday for second day reported no active cases among residents and staff.
  • Golden Plow Lodge long-term care in Cobourg: Declared 26 December 2021, initially with two employee cases. The house reported four cases on Jan. 1 – an additional three staff members and one resident.
  • Warkworth Institution: Declared December 21, 2021, the health unit initially reported 19 confirmed cases. Canada Correctional Service reported as of January 23, there were seven active cases among inmates (most recent data).
