Hamilton set a record for vaccinations in a single day on Tuesday.

Together with its community partners, the city says it was able to administer 10,153 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine through various clinics.

Hamilton Public Health says partners include Hamilton Health Sciences, St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton, Hamilton Paramedic Services, primary care partners, local pharmacies, and community organizations.

164 city officials have been deployed to assist in the vaccination effort, resulting in the temporary closure of recreation centers and museums.

The city also confirms that 73 employees are currently off work, due to illness or isolation and quarantine protocols, during which it is doing its best to provide non-clinical staff to support vaccination clinics and protect critical service delivery. .

Dr. Elizabeth Richardson, Hamilton’s medical health officer, has predicted that it will take until the end of January to administer the third doses to all interested residents, of whom 320,000 will be eligible.

Pfizer dosages are reserved for those under 30 years of age, until further notice, due to limited supplies.
