COVID-19: Halifax Transit continues to cancel bus trips due to staffing levels – Halifax | The Canadian News

Halifax Transit announced that several additional bus trips will be canceled due to staff availability due to COVID-19.

These cancellations will begin on Thursday and will remain in effect until further notice.

Several trips were also canceled as of December 21 to allow passengers to plan ahead.

The ferry service is also expected to run at reduced capacity for about two weeks.

You can find the full list of cancellations. here.

Union president Ken Wilson told Global News last week that, in addition to COVID-19, the main problem with staffing is staff turnover in the last 12 months. He attributed this to members who retired early, resigned, or were fired from their positions.

The story continues below the ad.

“The staff is working diligently to minimize the loss of service and give as much advance notice as possible to passengers,” says a statement from the municipality about the cancellations. “Based on current staffing levels, the loss of service on conventional bus service is expected to continue for at least the next two weeks.”
