COVID-19: Eight deaths reported Wednesday; new outbreak at Surrey Memorial Hospital

BC reported eight more deaths from COVID-19 on Wednesday, bringing the total number of lives lost in the province to 2,953.

The total death toll since the start of the pandemic has been reduced by one today due to a data correction.

An outbreak has been declared at Surrey Memorial Hospital, raising the number of active outbreaks in acute and long-term care to nine.

Six of the other outbreaks, all in long-term care, are in the Island Health region. The remaining two are in the BC Interior.

There are 329 people hospitalized with COVID-19 including 51 in intensive care.
