Covid-19 crisis impacted 35,000 members of the Concanaco-Servytur

Around 35,000 companies in the commerce, services and tourism sector in Mexico finally lowered their curtains during 2021, due to the Covid-19 pandemic that aggravated the situation of economic survival, lamented the president of the Confederation of National Chambers of Commerce. , Services and Tourism (Concanaco-Servytur), Héctor Tejada Shaar.

Although this amount represents 5% of the 700,000 affiliates of Concanaco, most of those affected belong to the tourism industry, because the trend of businesses is that businesses migrated to digitization, he reported.

A few days ago Inegi reported that 1 million 583,930 economic units that disappeared in the period of May 2019 and July 2021, while 1 million 187,170 businesses were created, which showed that 396,760 economic units closed permanently.

“We have 700,000 companies through the affiliates of the National Chambers of Commerce (Canacos) and we estimate that 5% of them were affected, that is, 35,000 closed or changed their business, although there have been reopening of companies,” said the president of the Concanaco.

In an interview with El Economista, Héctor Tejada said that the closure of companies is also an opportunity for other businesses, since existing ones have growth, that is why there is growth to offer jobs in this last part of 2021, he added.

By the end of 2021 we are “very positive” said the leader of merchants established in Mexico, because “the information we have from the chambers of commerce is that there is a lot of consumption this end of the year and that businesses are full, they are generating good sales”.

Employment has grown throughout the year and in September the same number was registered prior to the pandemic, it is thought that by the end of the year there will be 21 million formal jobs in the IMSS, which is a reflection that people have purchasing power to buy products and services, which is perceived as the end of the year with significant economic recovery.

The president of Concanaco foresees that 2021 will end with a growth in trade of between 6 and 8%, that the services sector will rebound 10% and tourism will rebound 20% compared to 2020.

“Although it was the most affected during the pandemic, the tourism sector has also benefited the most during this end of the year, where people are going out, going to tourist places and restaurants,” said Tejada Shaar.

He commented that there are destinations that are very busy, such is the case of Cancun, Los Cabos and Puerto Vallarta. However, he called on citizens to take advantage of all the country’s tourist destinations, since in the center there are beaches that are not popular to visit. “Tourism should be for everyone in our country and generate an economy at the national level,” he added.

For the Concanaco leader, employment has grown and “I suppose he has been rehired, the businesses that closed have recovered and turns have been adjusted, looking for the conditions for the new reality, and internet sales have also grown, we we focus on the subject of electronic commerce ”.
