Covid-19: cases in May 2022, at their lowest level of the year but with a rebound


Mexico recorded its lowest level of Covid-19 infections during May so far this year, when 44,144 cases were reported.

However, after a few months of encouraging indicators on the control of this disease in the country, the Health Secretary confirmed earlier this week that a trend of increasing infections has been observed at the national level.

According to data from the federal government, at the beginning of the fifth month of 2022, around 6,000 weekly infections were registered weekly, however, in epidemiological week 21 of 2022, which includes May 22 to 28, 12,265 cases of the virus were registered. coronavirus SARS-CoV-2; practically double what had been reported since mid-April.

As of May 31, 2022, the total accumulated number of Covid-19 infections in Mexico was 5,783,824, according to data from the Ministry of Health compiled in the Interactive Dashboard on Covid-19 of the National Institute of Public Health.

The Ministry of Health reported on Tuesday that since the start of the pandemic, in mid-February 2020, as of June 7 of this year, 5,797,427 cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed; while the official number of deaths from this disease is 325,042 deaths.
