COVID-19: BC Reports 468 New Cases, 9 Deaths As Floods Threaten Vaccine Deliveries | The Canadian News

British Columbia reported 468 new COVID-19 cases Thursday, along with nine additional deaths as the effects of flooding and landslides threatened to disrupt vaccine deliveries.

The update saw the province’s seven-day average for new cases drop to 410, and it left BC with 3,345 active cases.

Of the new cases, 173 were in the Fraser Health region, 69 in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, 85 in the Interior Health region, 68 in the Northern Health region, and 72 in the Island Health region. One case involved someone from outside of Canada.

There were 355 active cases in the hospital, including 110 in intensive or critical care.

The Health Ministry said that 90.8 percent of eligible British Columbia citizens have now received one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, and 87 percent of those eligible have received two doses.

He said the 22 percent of British Columbia residents who were not fully vaccinated accounted for 60.4 percent of cases in the past week and 70.3 percent of hospitalizations in the past two weeks.

Earlier Thursday, Pfizer warned that the devastating floods and landslides that have virtually isolated the Lower Continent from British Columbia would result in delays in shipments of the COVID-19 vaccine to the province.

The company said it was working with third-party distributors on “mitigation plans” to address the delays.

Since the start of the pandemic, BC has reported a total of 214,150 cases, while 2,290 people have died.
