COVID-19: Active cases in Peterborough dropped to 569 with 315 more resolved – Peterborough | The Canadian News

Peterborough Public Health has reported 54 new cases of COVID-19, but active cases are still declining, according to data released late Wednesday afternoon.

The health unit’s COVID tracker, issued at 4:17 p.m., reported 569 active cases, down from 830 reported Tuesday and 1,102 reported Monday in Peterborough, Peterborough County, Curve Lake First Nation and Hiawatha First Nation.

The health unit notes that active cases reported are an “underestimation” due to changes in the availability of PCR tests that are effective on 31 December 2021.

No new deaths have been reported, holding the death toll since the pandemic was declared at 41. Two deaths were reported over the weekend after four deaths were reported last week.

The health unit also reported another 315 completed cases on Wednesday. The 3,947 cumulative resolved cases make up approximately 86.6 percent of the 4,557 cumulative cases since the pandemic was declared.

Peterborough Regional Health Center Tuesday afternoon 35 inpatients reported, from 32 logged in on Friday (no update was provided from 16:35 on Wednesday).

The 157 cumulative hospital cases since the onset of the pandemic make up about 3.5 percent of all cases. Twenty-seven of the cases required the intensive care unit – unchanged since Tuesday.

The health unit reports a new outbreak at an unidentified community housing facility (No. 16).

  • Centenary long-term care in Millbrook: declared January 14th. The house ate Wednesday Friday reported eight active cases among residents – by five on Friday. “The affected residents are still having mild symptoms at this time,” said administrator Debbie Cook.

  • Peterborough Regional Health Center: 2 January on the A5 inpatient unit declared. There were five active cases from 11 January.

  • St. Joseph’s by Fleming long-term care in Peterborough: Declared 29 Dec.
  • Fairhaven long-term care in Peterborough: Declared on December 28, the House initially reported five personnel cases. From 11 January, the facility r17 active cases reported – seven residents and 10 staff members.
  • Riverview Manor long-term care in Peterborough: Declared 28 Dec.
  • Extend Lakefield: Declared 22 Dec.

There have been 661 cases related to 94 outbreaks since the pandemic was declared – 285 cases in the last 30 days and 63 cases over the last seven days.

Vaccination rate

Daily updates for vaccination data can be found on the COVID tracker website. Note that 317,528 doses were administered and 80.7 percent of qualifying residents (ages five and older) were fully vaccinated with two doses. The health unit reports that 68,371 residents have now received a third dose / booster of a vaccine – 48.3 percent of the qualifying population (five years and older).

Another 49 percent of children between the ages of five and 11 received a first dose of a vaccine.

The health unit is updating its list of clinics on its website offers first, second and third doses for adults and first doses for children aged five to 11 years. All appointments must be booked on Ontario’s online portal or by calling the Provincial Vaccine Discussion Call Center at 1-833-943-3900.

A number of pharmacies in and around Peterborough offer vaccinations to qualifying recipients. Appointments are required and can be made by calling the respective pharmacies or the Ontario Government Website.
