The concept of a canopy over Windsor’s Riverfront Festival Plaza needs more work.

The city council voted almost unanimously on Monday that the administration should work with a consultant to develop “different cost options for the final detailed design … that vary in price, and once completed, conduct public and stakeholder consultations on those designs. “

“We all agree that we have to do something … but we need some options as to what is available,” Ward 3 Coun said. Rino Bortolin, whose motion led to the decision.

Years in the making, the proposed project design was presented to the council last month at an estimated cost of $ 32.5 million.

As envisioned, the permanent dome-shaped canopy would protect the entire 5,000-person Riverfront Festival Plaza area while maintaining an open view of the water.
