City council agreed Monday to allow for Windsor Salt Ltd. to expand its operations on lands beneath Malden Park.

The company has long held mineral rights to the lands dating back to the 1950s and recently formally requested to expand those operations to construct and operate new brine wells.
The agreement with the city approved by council sets out how Windsor Salt assumes all liability for its salt extraction operations in the area.
Since receiving the request a couple years ago, the city has worked with the company to apply to the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks for an amendment to the Environmental Compliance Approval for Malden Park in order to permit the expansion.
Under the agreement with the city, Windsor Salt will be responsible for any repair disturbance of the lands within the park during construction or afterwards during operations in the years ahead.
