Construction sector has better progress in 12 months

In March, the value of the production of the construction sector in Mexico grew 2.5% compared to February, an advance that was the best of the indicator since March 2021, according to figures from the National Survey of Construction Companies (ENEC) of the National Institute of Geography and Statistics (Inegi).

The expansion allowed the indicator to recover the ground lost during February (-1.8%) and reach its best level since the start of the pandemic. During the third month of the year, five of the six subsectors of the indicator registered advances, with the exception of the category of transportation works, which contracted 0.5 percent.

The greatest advance was observed in the oil sector works item (+18.8%) and was followed by the line of water and sanitation (+8.8%), electricity (+3.8%) and construction (+2.8 percent).

This last subsector, which contributes almost 50% of the total value of the construction sector, made five months of progress, which represents the longest streak since the reactivation of the sector began after the confinements of April and May 2020.

The good monthly report of the ENEC does not erase the slow progress that the construction sector has had, since in March the value of work was still 19.8% below the level of March 2019, prior to the Covid-19 pandemic.
