Construction companies in Mexico: production value remains at historically low levels

The sector of the construction in Mexico continues to make moderate progress during the second half of 2021; Despite this, it is still at levels significantly far from the dynamism seen in previous years.

The Covid-19 pandemic deepened the crisis that construction companies in the country were already facing; that since 2016 began a downward trend in the value of production, the total number of employees and their salaries.

In 2016, construction production reached a value close to 35,000 million pesos; currently this value is close to just 23,000 million pesos, according to figures from the Monthly Survey of Construction Companies (EMEC) of Inegi.

The previous loss of dynamism, the crisis and the complications in the recovery process have put pressure on the sector, however, during August 2021 it achieved moderate progress.

During this eighth month of the year, the construction companies registered an increase of 6.2% in the value of their production, compared to the same month of the previous year. Additionally, in the immediate comparison, only from July to August, it also showed an advance of 0.6 percent.

There were also year-on-year increases of 5.4% in the total number of people employed in construction companies and their remunerations real averages (wages, salaries and benefits).

Another positive indicator is the income of employees and workers almost in the same proportion.

The construction industry, which has been one of the hardest hit in the last five years, adds three months with consecutive advances in its value of production; that boosts your other indicators. It is expected that during 2022 all secondary activities will improve their trajectory by boosting the national economy.
