Concamin and CMIC ask AMLO to participate in public infrastructure works

The south-southeast of Mexico can become a competitive and productive region, so “we ask to see the Dos Bocas refinery to get on board the iconic and important projects of this government,” he argued. Jose Abugaber Andonaipresident of the Confederation of Industrial Chambers (Concamino).

If the federal government wants there to be economic growthpublic resources and jobs, it is urgent that the participation of the Mexican industry in public infrastructure works that has been left in the hands of the Mexican Army and has charged construction companies, demanded the leader of the industrialists.

During the Concamin Business Meeting 2022Abugaber Andonai said: “we industrialists are committed to generating productive investment with formal jobs, with training and education for human capital, with technology and innovation” and to bet on the South-Southeast”.

On his occasion, the president of the Mexican Chamber of the Construction Industry (CMIC), Francisco Solares Germanargued that the null participation of private initiative in infrastructure has not only aggravated the survival situation of companies, but has also damaged the government itself by seeing public revenues decrease.

The fact that the armed forces have become the largest construction company in the country has repercussions for the national economy, especially in micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), which have been displaced from works, he assured.

“The work carried out by the Army does not generate income from Income tax (ISR) and Value Added Tax (VAT) for the government, which results in lower collection, which decreases the speed with which the construction economy and the country’s economy can be reactivated,” lamented Solares Alemán.

In an interview, the businessman recalled that the construction industry has been “hard hit”, not only by the investment strategy of the federal government, in which the sector does not participate, but also faces increases of up to 17% in the prices of supplies, including the rod, cement and partition.

“We need more investment. If President AMLO thinks that the Mexican Army should be involved, his reasons should be, he said it was due to corruption. We think that it is not out there and if he found it, the corrupt must be punished, we are the first to end corruption, ”demanded the president of the CMIC.

Francisco Solares recalled that from the period from 2008 to 2021, the turnover of construction companies decreased by 35% and in the last 3 years, of that 35%, it decreased by 26%, “that is the situation that construction entrepreneurs have, those of us who have built this country, we have built all the infrastructure and we are the ones who must continue to do so for the good of the country and the industry,” he said.

The president of Concamin affirmed that the presence of the industry and its investments is urgent, since “the logistics of merchandise from the south to the north of the country is very expensive. Many times it is cheaper from Illinois, United States) to our country than from the south to the north of our country”.
