Conasami wants to raise professional minimum wages

Analyzing, monitoring and updating the list of professional minimum wages is a task that the National Minimum Wages Commission (Conasami) will carry out as of January next year.

In an interview with El Economista, Luis Munguía, president of Conasami, said that the time had come to carry out a thorough review of the salaries classified in 61 professions and that they are in a table that has not been updated for decades, since Several professions require a true salary recovery.

“It is a subject that has not been touched much; It has never happened because it is locked in both sectors -worker and employer-, I think it is worth exploring, “he said. In the last two years, an increase similar to that of minimum wages began to be applied and in the case of 2022 it is located at 22 percent.

“But before this, the increases barely reached 3%, this is what caused that each time the general minimum wage was approaching the professional minimum, the difference has become smaller and smaller, so in 2019 we already made the In the same formula, we increased MIR and minimum wage and we only gave the increase to professional minimums without giving them any MIR ”, explained the president of Conasami.

He acknowledged that there is still “no agreement” between the sectors and that there is resistance. “The business sector says that it should not exist, so the proposal that will be presented is to do it in stages. The most basic is to remove those that no longer exist, homogenize those that already exist with the INEGI methodology, to have data and information to make decisions.

Professions such as: clerk in drugstores and pharmacies; bulldozer or trascabo operator; mosaic and tile setter; cutter in workshops; gondola or shelf employee; cowboy milking machine, they will have to be checked.

He stressed that “many of our professions are not compared and do not have any system and what we want first is to homogenize and we already have a conversion table, that is a great achievement and the next part is to know which ones remain, which ones leave, etc. . ”.

Who should enter?

After emphasizing that there must be professional wages, because otherwise “they would be in a worse situation”, the president of Conasami stressed that the labor sector proposes that the increase should be such that it manages to separate them from the general minimum wage; The latter, “the path has already been laid out, but the biggest challenge is to reach our goal, which is the wellness line, which is $ 226.00 today, and see if we achieve it.”

When consulted in this regard, some members of the Council of Representatives of Conasami, both from the labor sector and the employer, commented that there is already a starting point presented by the Technical Directorate of the organization that has a methodology to measure the quality of employment of professions and from there, start the process of change.

It is important that you also know if you have a contract, vacation, Christmas bonus and social security; as well as the fact that it is less vulnerable, that it is better balanced between men and women, that there is no inequality.

Likewise, they commented that at the table they were already presented with three new professions that could be included in the list, since they are in the worst working conditions, among them are: the delivery of goods, (Rappi, Uber, Didi); the kitchen assistants, people who work in super luxury restaurants, but their income and their treatment is not fulfilling a decent job.
