Conasami prepares another increase to the minimum wage for next year

The Council of Representatives of the National Minimum Wages Commission (Conasami) prepares the salary increase for next year, for which he called the representatives of the labor and employer sectors to a meeting at noon.

In this sense, it is expected that this December 1 the agreement will be reached on the percentage of salary increase, which could be 20%, according to estimates by some of the members.

Currently the minimum wage is at 141.70 pesos per day, while in the Free Zone of the Northern Border it is located at 213.39 pesos; which would represent an increase of 28.34 pesos.

According to data from the Conasami from 2018 to 2021 the minimum wage has increased 60.4%, going from 88.36 to 141.70 pesos per day in the “Rest of the country” area; while in the area “Free Zone of the Northern Border” the increase has been 141.5% to 213.39 pesos per day.

Discounting inflation, the increases have been 43 and 115.3%, respectively. It is estimated that the increases have benefited almost 4.5 million workers who are quoted in the Mexican Social Security Institute.

He also highlighted that the purchasing power of the minimum wage achieved a recovery of 8.7%, during the first 10 months of the year, as reported in the Annual Report on the Behavior of the Economy in 2021, which the Technical Directorate of the Conasami handed over to the Council of Representatives.

It should be noted that data for the first half of November, annual inflation was 7.05 percent. The behavior of inflation in the country during the year is largely explained by factors in the international context.
