‘Completely devastating’: Fire destroys band hall in Bear River First Nation

The RCMP in Nova Scotia are investigating after the band hall in Bear River First Nation, NS, was destroyed by fire overnight.

Emergency crews were called to the scene around 1:20 am, Friday.

Bear River Fire Chief David McCormick says, despite efforts from neighboring fire departments, the 38-year-old three-storey building is a complete loss.

“It’s a shame. Completely devastating to the community and Bear River,” McCormick told CTV News.

He says no one was inside the building at the time and no injuries were reported.

The investigation is ongoing.
