This Thursday, Committee against Enforced Disappearance (CED) of the United Nations (UN) met with relatives of the 43 missing students from Ayotzinapa in Tixtla, Guerrero; there the mothers and fathers stated that, despite the progress, structural obstacles persist in the case.

The visit is part of the tour made by ten experts from the CED throughout 12 states, where they seek to meet with federal and state authorities, as well as with those responsible for establishing and implementing public policies on forced disappearance, in addition to meeting with victims, representatives of civil society, the National Human Rights Commission, international organizations, among others.

Upon arriving at the facilities of the Normal Rural Raúl Isidro Burgos from Ayotzinapa, located in the municipality of Tixtla, the members of the Committee, headed by Horacio Ravenna, were received by normalistas and relatives of the young people who disappeared in September 2014 in Iguala, Guerrero.

Prior to the private meeting, Mrs. Joaquina, mother of Martín Getsemaní García, lamented to the CED experts that seven years of pain and suffering have passed, without any government being able to solve the case.

Thank you for being here, for giving us that space so that parents can hear the suffering we have suffered in 7 years. We thank you for not leaving us, that you continue to accompany us. “

Also present at the meeting was attorney for the parents of the 43, Vidulfo Rosales Sierra and representatives of different human rights organizations such as the Miguel Agustín Pro Juárez Human Rights Center and the La Montaña Tlachinollan Human Rights Center.

During its visit to the country, the CED will also seek to attend exhumations carried out by the authorities and groups of victims, in addition, the delegation will visit places of deprivation of liberty such as prisons and detention centers, to examine their registration systems as a means to prevent enforced disappearances. The tour will conclude on November 27.
