Normal traffic flow has resumed after police removed the last barriers to crossing Huron Church Road, the scene of a blockade of the Ambassador Bridge just over a month ago.

Windsor police announced via a tweet at 1:25 am Saturday that traffic is now moving east to west on College Avenue and normal traffic flow is underway on Huron Church .

The College Avenue intersection had been under police monitoring, with no access for eastbound or westbound vehicles and northbound Huron Church Road traffic had been restricted to bridge vehicles only, weeks after the blockade was removed by police.

Demonstrators opposing COVID-19 vaccine mandates and calling for overthrow of the Justin Trudeau government began occupying the College Avenue intersection on Feb. 6 — blocking the Canadian entrance to the Ambassador Bridge.

The blockade lasted for a week and disrupted both the local community and international trade. Automakers alone estimated losses from that week at $300 million.
