Speaking just days after the province’s 17th femicide in 2021, Coderre said the city has 84 fewer police officers than when he was mayor. Reports from the Montreal Police website support this claim.

Coderre would fill those positions immediately and add a total of 250 police officers to bring the city to the minimum level of officers established by Quebec based on population.

“We don’t want to take funds away from the police force; we want to finance it better, ”he said.

He claimed that the Plante administration has neglected the city’s police force.

“When there are 84 fewer police officers than in 2017; that’s final, ”he said. “When the administration is against the body cameras until the time of the elections, it is a problem, when the majority of (Projet Montréal) is voting in favor of the definition and disarmament, it is a problem.”
