City council is expected to approve about $2.8 million for the purchase of three replacement fire engines on Monday. About $150,000 of that is for associated equipment.
Windsor Fire has a 15-year replacement schedule for its front-line fire apparatus. Each year, the department brings forward a summary of its current and future funding requirements.
During the city’s 2022 budget submission process, council approved the replacement of three fire engines.

The city purchasing department issued a request for proposals based on Windsor Fire specifications and received three responses.
A city staff report states “there is no single standard design for fire fighting vehicles.” Fleets “are built over time, and as with any fleet, similarity — if not uniformity — is the goal in order to gain efficiency in training and servicing.” As a result, fire trucks are all custom-made.
