Chile will open all its land borders from May 1


Chili It will open on May 1 all the country’s land borders that were still closed as a preventive measure due to the pandemic, the government reported this Sunday through a statement.

“The Ministry of the Interior and Public Securitytogether with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Chiliconfirm the opening of all the land border crossings from next May 1, 2022 “, indicated the Interior portfolio on its Twitter account.

In the same document, he specified that next Tuesday, April 12, the “specific measures from the health point of view” that will be implemented for the proper border crossing will be announced.

The border closure was carried out on March 17, 2020 after registering the first Covid-19 cases in the country. With control of the pandemic and the vaccination process, Chile made a gradual opening.

Since November 2021, the air border was opened through the Santiago airport and later flights were resumed at three more air terminals (Antofagasta and Iquique in the north and Punta Arenas in the south).

And on December 22, the first five border crossings with Argentina were opened.

With this Sunday’s announcement, terrestrial connections with bolivia and with Peru in the north, in the Atacama desert.

In the last two years, these areas have registered a high flow of irregular migrants to Chile, mainly Venezuelan citizens.
