“It’s dangerous, motorists overtake us, even on the double lines. It would take more police surveillance to start,” lamented trucker Michel Lafontaine.

The member for Bécancour-Nicolet, Donald Martel is well aware of the problem. He himself asked the Ministry of Transport to develop a safety study on this section.

“Two years ago there was a fatal accident; that’s when I ordered the study. This is a very worrying matter. It is certain that Highway 30 will have to go through the same process as Highway 55, the doubling of which we have just confirmed, ”said the politician.

The security report will not be available for a few more months. Conflict with government engineers delays process.

Approximately 9,000 vehicles use Highway 30 daily. Traffic on this section is also increasing. Several new residential areas nearby have been built. Added to this will be the numerous industrial projects in the Bécancour park.

For now, the Ministère des Transports cannot confirm whether the addition of interchanges, traffic lights or the doubling of the highway will be part of the recommendations of the safety report.

“The objective of the study is to have a precise portrait of the situation. This will allow us to determine the improvements that will have to be put in place, for the moment the experts are doing their work, we will wait before deciding, ”explained their spokesperson, Roxanne Pellerin.

MNA Martel affirms, for his part, that it will be necessary to act quickly in this file.
