Chanel: “I’m in Turin to win Eurovision”

Until last January, Chanel Terrero She was unknown to the general public. Not so in the world of entertainment, since the artist has spent more than a decade treading stages as a dancer, actress and singer. He was proposed to debut as a soloist in the benidorm fest with the aim of going to Eurovision, and he did not hesitate for a second. It was a success, in view of the success and the expectations created, here and throughout Europe. On Saturday the 14th it could give Spain its third victory in the contest, something that TVE has resisted since 1969.

The Benidorm Fest ends and, immediately afterwards, Eurovision. Is there time left to disconnect?

Do not!; I haven’t even had time to rest. These are some very crazy days! Yes, I have taken a few weekends to relax a little, but that is what I have to do now: work hard and be at the top of the game.

Eurovision is hard work…

What my dancers and I do on stage is not achieved overnight. You don’t learn a choreography in a single day. We have been taking classes for many years, and we still continue to do so, because I believe that an artist can never stop learning and growing as a professional. For those three minutes in Eurovision to be perfect, there is a lot of work behind it. I, for example, was running on the treadmill and singing ‘SloMo’ at the same time for a month and a half, to bottom out and not drown.

It involves undergoing a great deal of training.

There is a lot of work. And not only to prepare for this ‘show’, but throughout my career, since I was 4 years old, to be able to execute those steps in a clean way that doesn’t affect my voice while I do them. The security with which you go on stage already supposes a prior emotional work so that your nerves do not play tricks on you. Before going on stage you have to put the ‘training’ into practice. Then there is the work with the ‘vocal coach’, the singing classes…

How is your day to day now?

My days are not usually very routine. There is not usually one the same as another, but I am already used to it, because I have been working on musicals, on series all my life… I’m meeting a lot of people and this makes me especially excited. And I’m tired; I don’t sleep much. If one day I can get up at three in the afternoon, to rest my voice, I do it. And if I have to get up at six in the morning because there is a ‘shooting’, well, here we go! I dont complain; It’s what’s up right now for what’s to come.

She is fifth in the betting. What pressure!

Not at all! It doesn’t condition me. I am excited that my work and that of my colleagues is valued. It’s super rewarding. Being among the favorites is information that is there and does not have to cloud my goal, which is to rehearse a lot and give all my energy, all my hours and everything in my power to make ‘SloMo’, on May 14 , be ‘supertop’. Obviously, you have to be up to the task, but even if we weren’t up in the betting, I wouldn’t have given a damn about myself.

Inside me there is a 4-year-old girl, who I will never lose, who is the one who makes me see the beautiful part of all this

Benidorm and Eurovision in just four months must be living a golden spring.

It is a spring, a summer, an autumn and a winter; everything at once! This is crazy. Inside me there is a 4-year-old girl, who I will never lose, who is the one who makes me stay on the ground and see the beautiful part of all this, despite the tiredness and the hours I haven’t slept. Because it pays to meet new people and live this experience, which I will undoubtedly tell my grandchildren about when I am older.

What are your favorite songs from this Festival?

I couldn’t choose just one, because the truth is that this year there is a lot of level and all the candidates seem ‘super top’ to me. But I like the UK and Italy very much. And obviously Ronela Hajati, the Albanian.

Are you afraid that the whole of your proposal will not be valued at Eurovision, and that in the end it will all depend on whether you like the song or not?

In the end, art is subjective. There is no fair or unfair thing; It’s simply a matter of taste and, also, of social moments, because suddenly a song triumphs that, if you had released it 10 years earlier, would not have done so. I go to sleep at home super proud to know that I have given everything of myself. And what is in my hand, I will do it. Another thing is that they like it, but my energy is that: we are going to win Turin.

Does Eurovision mark a before and after in your career?

For me, as a professional and from an artistic point of view, it is one more step; one more challenge. What happens is that this step is very big, because many people see it at Eurovision.

He has been to Miami and Los Angeles to prepare new songs.

I’ve been composing together with Leroy Sánchez, who is one of the authors of ‘SloMo’, and other ‘supertop’ musicians, like Mario Cáceres and Claudio Abraham. These have been my first sessions as an author: incredible! I really want you to see soon what we have worked on.

I always say that nothing has been written about cowards

In other words, there will be a disc…

Why not? I do not close any door! And less, artistically speaking. I always say that nothing has been written about cowards. What I do know is that I really want to make art.

How is fame?

It’s very weird. They ask me for a lot of photos on the street. I’m getting a lot of love from people, and that’s really cool.

You were beaten up a lot after winning the Benidorm Fest…

This is something that has already happened. For me that door is already closed. And I am super happy with all the love I am receiving on social networks and from the entire profession. I am very focused on the future and work

How do you define yourself as an artist?

Very demanding and passionate. Passion for work, which in the end is my life. Passion for art. I live things very intensely and this channel is open, as an artist, when I get on stage.

Your musical references?

Many artists have inspired me. I loved Cristina Aguilera. Also the Spice Girls… I saw that they sang and danced. Obviously Beyonce! And Shakira.

And now, what do you listen to on your playlists?

There is everything. I have the ‘Les Miserables’ musical on loop. I really like listening to Selena Quintanilla and Gloria Stefan. I’m also with Amber Mark’s latest album, ‘Three dimensions deep’; I love it! I have old reggaeton, and Whitney Houston, of course! And even a Disney list…
