Chancellor Joly isolates himself after positive COVID test

Foreign Minister Melanie Joly tested positive for COVID-19 after running a rapid test.

Joly revealed the result Monday on Twitter, saying she was in isolation awaiting the result of a PCR test.

Joly did not say where or how he contracted COVID-19, nor did he provide details about his health status.

“She is awaiting confirmation through the PCR test result. Everyone who needed it … has been notified of the rapid test result,” said Joly spokeswoman Maéva Proteau.

Joly tweeted that he will continue to work in isolation as he has been doing for several days.

“I am grateful for the protection that vaccines offer us and I encourage everyone to get vaccinated and receive a booster. It is the best thing we can do to keep our families safe this Christmas season and throughout the year,” Joly said.

“While it is important to get tested for COVID, remember that testing alone does not protect you from contracting and spreading the virus. Please continue to be cautious, limit your contacts, and follow public health guidelines.”

Joly’s Twitter account shows that she had a recent meeting with newly arrived US Ambassador to Canada David Cohen. Proteau said the meeting took place virtually.

Joly attended the in-person meeting of the G7 foreign ministers in Liverpool, England, just over a week ago.
