CFRC Onboards New Local News Team

CFRC 101.9 FM Radio Queen’s University, celebrating its 100th year of broadcasting in 2022 is pleased to announce the expansion of its local broadcast news desk. Through the support of the Local Journalism Initiative, CFRC welcomes Karim Mosna as the station’s new Broadcast News Reporter. CFRC also welcomes Christena Lawrie to the team as the station’s new Arts Coordinator.

Mosna, born and raised in the Hamilton area and trained at Mohawk College, brings a wealth of experience from broadcast studios and newsrooms across Ontario including 103.3 Moose FM in Parry Sound and Grand 101 FM in Fergus. Lawrie, a current Philosophy student at Queen’s and a practicing dancer, brings great passion for local arts, arts organizing and arts promotion.

Launching by mid-May on CFRC’s social media, podcast platform, live stream and broadcast airwaves, Mosna’s daily news spots at 8 AM and 5 PM will cover a wide range of local and regional news, in addition to traffic, sports and weather updates. Mosna will also introduce a new weekly local current affairs program with a focus on local news and interviews.

Joining Mosna on CFRC’s various platforms, Lawrie will be creating daily and weekly arts events updates to accompany Mosna’s news spots. She will also be supporting local artists, organizers and their events including performances, exhibitions and festivals through our social media and through new weekly interview-based programs.

“It’s a pleasure and a privilege to welcome Karim and Christena to our growing news team, says Dinah Jansen, Executive Director, CFRC 101.9 FM. “Both exemplify the high level of journalistic excellence our community seeks over broadcast radio, and they bring to their respective roles a great deal of passion for community and community-building. We’re very excited to have them aboard.”
