CFE reports damages to 11% of its users in Baja California due to cold front

Just over 11% of electricity users in Baja California suffered interruptions to their connection to the Federal electricity commission (CFE) as a consequence of Cold Front number 14 that entered the country on Tuesday affecting 11 entities.

According to the CFE, with uninterrupted work, it restored the electricity supply to 99% of the 161,959 users affected by the effects of the Cold Front 14 in the state of Baja California.

To deal with the effects, the CFE deployed a team made up of 124 electrical workers, 32 vehicles and 24 cranes. CFE staff will maintain the necessary tasks until reaching full restoration, according to the report.

“The CFE has specific protocols for emergency care, establishing adequate mechanisms for timely decision-making in the event of damage to the electricity supply caused by natural phenomena,” stated the state company in a statement.

Through the National Civil Protection System, the CFE is in close coordination with the Secretary of National Defense, the Marine Secretary, National Water Comission, Health Secretary, as well as with the state and municipal governments to attend to this contingency.

Since last Monday, the National Metereological Service (SMN), warned about the entry through the Northwest of the country of this phenomenon that would cause rains and frosts in various states of the Mexican Republic.

The SMN highlighted that the instability band, in interaction with the subtropical jet stream and with a polar trough, will generate strong occasional rains in Baja California, rains with intervals of showers in Sonora, and isolated rains in Baja California Sur and Chihuahua.

In addition, winds with gusts of 80 to 100 kilometers per hour are expected in the Gulf of California and with dust collectors in Baja California, Sonora and Chihuahua; and from 50 to 60 kilometers per hour in Baja California Sur.

Likewise, the CFE pointed out the existence of conditions for the possible fall of sleet or snow in mountainous areas of Baja California during this night and early this Wednesday.

He updated his reports reiterating that low temperatures and impacts will continue during Wednesday and Thursday, in which cold front 14 will extend with stationary characteristics over the north of the country, will maintain interaction with the subtropical jet stream and with a dry line over the northeast from Mexico, causing isolated rains in Sonora, Tamaulipas and Coahuila.

Finally, he reiterated that during the early morning the cold to very cold environment will prevail with frosts in mountainous areas of Baja California, Chihuahua and Durango.
