Celtics vs. Heat live score, updates, highlights from Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals

Another pivotal Game 5 is upon us.

With the Eastern Conference Finals tied 2-2, the Celtics travel to Miami to take on the Heat in a series-changing matchup.

I’m sure you’ve already seen the stat: Teams that win Game 5 in a best-of-7 series that is tied 2-2 win the series. 82 percent of the time. That said, the Celtics lost Game 5 to fall into a 3-2 hole to the Bucks in the last round, only to win two straight to advance to this stage.

The Heat face the pressure of possibly having to head to Boston with their season on the line if they can’t take care of business at home, while the Celtics look to avoid falling into another 3-2 hole.

Will Miami defend hometown and come within a win of returning to the Finals? Or will the Celtics return to Boston with a chance to end the series in Game 6?

The Sporting News has you covered with live updates, highlights and more on all the action.

Celtics vs. Heat Game 5: Live Score, Updates & Recaps

Third quarter:

22:17 — Boston has punished the Heat in transition in the third, grabbing rebounds and making easy buckets. The Heat have to do more on the offensive glass to regain control of the pace of the game.

22:10 — Here comes Jimmy Butler. He lowers his head and reaches the rim to give Miami their first field goal of the quarter. Boston leads 49-48.

22:06 — Max Strus returns to the locker room. We will continue to monitor the situation.

22:05 — we are sure? Al Horford’s 35? It takes you from coast to coast for the y-1.

22:02 — Marcus Smart commits his fourth foul early in the third quarter. He stays in the game.

10:00 pm – Grant Williams starts the second half for the Celtics, giving them a different look on offense with their perimeter players struggling so far.

Halftime: Heat 42, Celtics 37

After a rough first half, the Heat take a five-point lead until halftime. It’s the first time in the series that the halftime lead hasn’t been in double digits.

Derrick White (11 points) and Al Horford lead (10 points) lead the Celtics as their all-star duo of Brown and Tatum have combined to shoot 3-for-16 from the floor.

for the hot, Bam Adebayo is making his presence felt on the inside. He leads the Heat with 10 points and five rebounds at halftime.

21:34 — Derrick White keeps the Celtics on this one. He scored 11 points in 11 minutes, finding success working as the rollman in pick-and-roll actions.

21:32 — The Miami hoops have been far from friendly early on with both teams battling it out from deep. Miami is shooting 3-for-16, while the Celtics are just 2-for-11.

21:22 — Duncan Robinson gets his first triple of the game. It will be interesting to see how much he has used tonight after struggling to figure out the rotation, not just in this series but throughout the postseason. Without Tyler Herro, his shot could be a big factor for the Heat.

21:19 — Robert Williams with the great defensive play!

He covered a ton of ground to get from the paint to the corner and influence Gabe Vincent’s 3-point attempt. Disgusting.

End of first quarter: Heat 19, Celtics 17

Did someone say defense?

It was an old-fashioned fight in the first quarter with Miami taking a slight lead. They shot 9-for-24, while the Celtics shot 7-for-17 from the field.

21:12 — The Celtics did a great job in Game 4 of limiting their turnovers to just nine. During the first quarter, they have already turned the ball over six times, with Jaylen Bwon accounting for four of them.

21:03 — Oladipo fights through traffic for the layup to give Miami its first lead of the night 15-14.

Notably, that’s the first lead change in the series since the first quarter of Game 2 and only the fifth lead change in the entire series.

21:00 – BAM ADEBAYO!!!!

Bam shoots out of Butler’s miss for the emphatic kick. After a slow start in Game 4, Adebayo is off to a strong start at home.

20:52 — After missing his first six shots of the game, Jimmy Butler puts the Heat on the board.

8:50 p.m. — It’s been a hectic start to the game for both teams as Robert Williams III gets things rolling with the first two baskets of the game.
