CDMX prepares an action plan focused on easing road traffic

In addition to preparing a new project for water care, Mexico City is also preparing to present an action plan focused on ease the traffic and improve mobility, announced the head of government, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo.

At a press conference, the local president explained that this new plan seeks to reinforce the integrated mobility strategy, which has already achieved a strengthening of public transport.

“We have a Comprehensive Mobility Program in Mexico City, this includes a historic investment that we are making in public transport and also in mobility by bicycle (…) In addition, we have made vehicular bridges that improve mobility in public transport and in individual transport and some other actions that we are even developing now,” he added.

Specifying that the investment for the integrated mobility plan will reach 80,000 million pesos at the end of his administration, Sheinbaum Pardo indicated that improving road infrastructure also reduces road traffic.

“Obviously, the decrease in vehicular traffic depends, mainly, on the greater investment in public transport, so that the vehicle and use public transport, in addition to other actions that can be done to improve individual mobility”, he added.

In addition to this, he pointed out that in roads such as the Internal Circuit, actions have been taken to reduce traffic, for example, different road pairs have been generated and changes of direction during peak hours.

“In Periférico we have even opened exits to the side, entrances to central lanes; Some modifications have been made to the Viaduct itself. In general, the Comprehensive Program has to do with strengthening public transportation”, he reiterated.

He stated that the new strategy to reduce traffic is also due to the fact that due to the resumption of activities, different areas of the city have registered more road problems.

“So, there is a project, there is a comprehensive plan and congestion, in some areas, has intensified, but in many others, it has even decreased,” he said.

The leader of the Executive revealed that this new plan will be presented on Monday or Tuesday of next week.

“What we want is for it to be presented in a comprehensive manner so that everything that is being done in the city to improve mobility is known,” he said.

water plan

This week, the head of government announced that she had developed a master plan that seeks to resolve the water shortage and guarantee its sustainability.

The plan is focused on two axes, the first focuses on addressing the problems of each mayor’s office and the second point aims to develop an alliance with the State of Mexico and Michoacán.

“It is a comprehensive drinking water supply program that includes the local communities themselves and the supply to the Metropolitan Zone. It is a program that gives us a very long-term vision for the city and a short-term one,” he added.
