Acapulco, Gro.- The deployment of more than 12,000 police officers to guard the country’s main highways, with 2,300 additional patrols, announced as part of the anti-inflationary plan, will help the business sector stop suffering from the constant theft of goodswhich will be reflected in the lower price of the products, said Francisco Cervantes, president of the Business Coordinating Council (CCE).
The president of the National Chamber of Freight Transportation (Canacar)Ramón Medrano, revealed that freight theft rose 10% in the first quarter of 2022, compared to the same period in 2021, an impact that they are forced to transfer to the cost of products.
After the federal government presented the Package Against Inflation and Famine (PACIC), the president of the CCE specified that the reinforcement of police forces is part of the security strategies in the movement of goods.
“I don’t know if there are 12,000 additional bodies or if they are road care concentrates and surely the state police will make a commitment that everyone joins and is part of this program, “said Francisco Cervantes.

According to data from Canacar partners, highway robbery has risen 10% during the first quarter of last year. “It must be recognized that insecurity decreased in times of pandemic, but commercial movement also decreased. And now that the commercial movement is beginning to normalize, since highway robbery is increasing, we have very critical cases, very localized, in at least six states of the Mexican Republic (State of Mexico, Guanajuato, Michoacán and Puebla, and Veracruz)”, Medrano said.
