Mitt Romney Slams Politicians Attacking Mail-In Voting

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Sen. Mitt Romney said Friday that politicians attacking the vote by mail system are threatening global democracy but stopped short of criticizing President Donald Trump, who has been openly against an expected surge of mail-in ballots. The United States must stand as an example to more fragile democratic nations to show that elections can be held in a free and fair manner, Romney said. He urged the federal government to make every effort to ensure that people are able to vote in the general election this November. “That’s more important even than the outcome of the vote,” he said at a virtual event hosted by the conservative Utah-based Sutherland Institute. “We have got to preserve the principle of democracy or the trend we’re on is going to co...

Washington Post: USPS Workers Sound Alarm About New Policies That May Affect Mail-In Voting

Postal workers and union leaders are worried that new, recently implemented procedures — which have led to delays across the country in mail delivery — could impact mail-in voting for the November election, according to a Washington Post report. Citing multiple postal workers and union leaders, the Post reported that parts of the country are experiencing at least a two-day delay in receiving mail, including for express mail, as a result of the US Postal Service’s new policies. The current backlog is worsening to the point where workers fear they won’t be able to locate all voters’ ballots in time for them to be processed, the newspaper reported. The new procedures for the USPS were laid out in a memo earlier this month and come under the leadership of Postmaster Gen...

Coin Toss May Pick Winner Of Morgan County Commission Race

MORGAN, Utah – A Morgan County Commission district primary race has turned into a game of chance after the county clerk’s office said each candidate received the same number of votes and neither requested a recount. “How did I think it was going to go? It’s hard to say. It’s so hard to say,” said District 3 candidate Cindy Carter. “It could go either way.” “You obviously go into it wanting to win,” said Jared Andersen, Carter’s opponent. The impact of COVID-19 on the campaign was interesting enough for Andersen, an engineer. But it was nothing compared to the six-vote difference on election night. “I knew immediately it was going to be close,” said Andersen. But not this close. The Morgan County Clerk’s Office said each candidate received 541 votes. The deadline to ...

Peterson, a professor of business law at the University of Utah with federal government experience fighting predatory lending and protecting consumers, was already laying out his case for the office Monday evening. “We need to make sure we’re dealing with our...
