Soccer game AI camera operator repeatedly mistakes bald head for ball

While artificial intelligence has been able to successfully create a realistic simulation of Wimbledon matches, it seems to have more problems with soccer. At least, that was the case with a recent match with the Scottish soccer team Inverness Caledonian Thistle FC. With the COVID-19 pandemic resulting in games without a hearing, the Inverness Caledonian Thistle has since been using an automatic camera system with “built-in AI ball-tracking technology” to track the action. However, it did not go as planned in the team's late October game against Ayr United. For much of the game, the camera looked away from the ball and looked at the linesman, who had a shiny bald spot. Obviously, he was mixing the two round and similarly sized s...

Mike Zunino hit a two-run home run and Hunter Renfroe hit a grand slam as the Rays advanced by winning two straight games in the best-of-three series. Danny Jansen was one of the few bright spots for the visitors with two solo home runs. Tampa Bay will play Cleveland or New York in the American League Division Series. The Yankees took a 1-0 lead in Game 2 on Wednesday night. Raptors coach Nick Nurse signed multi-year extension – The Canadian News

The Toronto Raptors signed head coach Nick Nurse to a multi-year contract extension. Nurse was named NBA coach of the year last season, his second year as the club's head coach. The Raptors finished 53-19 during the regular season, posting the second-best record in the league despite losing superstar Kawhi Leonard to the Los Angeles Clippers in free agency after Toronto's run for the title last year. Toronto reached the Eastern Conference semifinals for the fifth year in a row before losing to the Boston Celtics in the seventh game last week. Nurse, a former assistant coach for the Raptors for five seasons, is 111-43 in two seasons as head coach.

Toronto Raptors go for first sweep in playoff series – The Canadian News

With a 3-0 lead in a playoff series for the first time, the Toronto Raptors will look to win their first sweep in the series on Sunday in Game 4 of their first-round playoff series with the Brooklyn Nets. Outside of a Game 2 problem, the Raptors have been downright dominant against Brooklyn so far in their series, averaging 118.3 points per game while holding the Nets at 100.3 points per game in the series - the 18-point-per-game differential is the greatest of any team in the playoffs so far. Essentially, this Raptors-Nets series has gone exactly as many thought: The championship-contender Raptors easily manage a vastly out-of-man, unmanned Nets squad. As such, heading into Game 4 on Sunday, you might believe the Raptors would be looking to take their foot off the gas a bit...

Warriors president apologizes to Toronto Raptors president Masai Ujiri – The Canadian News

The Golden State Warriors president apologizes to Raptors president Masai Ujiri after a video was released this week showing an altercation between the Toronto executive and a law enforcement official in the NBA Finals on last year in Oakland, California. Rick Welts wrote on Twitter that he is "heartbroken" after viewing the video that was part of a Ujiri counterclaim following a lawsuit filed by Alameda County Deputy Sheriff Alan Strickland. Welts says that while the team was not responsible for security at Oracle Arena, it wanted to apologize that it happened at a Warriors home game. The video appears to show Strickland using his arm to prevent Ujiri from reaching the court. As Ujiri tries to get past, Strickland pushes Ujiri before the two appear to exchange words. Strickl...

‘Because I’m black’: Raptors president Ujiri speaks after altercation video released – The Canadian News

When Toronto Raptors president Masai Ujiri needed help, star guard Kyle Lowry was there. Shortly after Toronto claimed its first NBA title last June in Oakland, California, Ujiri became embroiled in an altercation with Alameda County Deputy Sheriff Alan Strickland while trying to get onto the court. Earlier this week, a video surfaced showing the altercation, which was followed by Lowry pulling Ujiri to court and then hugging the Raptors executive. On Tuesday, Ujiri filed a counterclaim in the United States District Court in Oakland, California, after the officer filed a lawsuit. "(The video) shows why we support the social injustices that are happening right now," Lowry told reporters Thursday during a video conference. "It shows why we support Black Lives Matter." “It sho...

Raptors seek 2-0 playoff series lead in afternoon game against Brooklyn – The Canadian News

The unmanned Brooklyn Nets are gaining playoff experience as they go. The Nets will take the lessons learned from their loss to the Toronto Raptors in Game 1 of their best-of-seven Eastern Conference first-round series in Game 2 on Wednesday afternoon near Orlando. Defending NBA champion Raptors made an early statement in Game 1 of Monday's series by opening up a 33-point lead in the second quarter. The Nets struggled on their own to reduce their deficit to eight points before the Raptors regained control and clinched a 134-110 victory. "They're champions and they've played on the big stage before, and it seemed like they were trying to deliver an early message," said interim Nets coach Jacque Vaughn. "I liked the way our group responded after halftime and took that first hi...

New video shows clearer view of Deputy Sheriff’s Deputy vs. Raptors Masai Ujiri confrontation – The Canadian News

Attorneys representing Raptors president Masai Ujiri say a new video reveals that a deputy sheriff started the confrontation in last year's NBA championship victory in California. The video, obtained by Fox News affiliate KTVU, shows three clear angles of the meeting between Rep. Alan Strickland and Ujiri, including from Strickland's own body camera. In the video, Ujiri can be seen walking towards Strickland as he heads onto the court to celebrate. Ujiri appears to be pulling out his credentials when Strickland appears to shove Ujiri in the chest. The two exchange words, only for Ujiri to be pushed back. Then he pushes Strickland back. Ujiri's legal team says the footage shows Strickland was "without a doubt the initial assailant." No criminal charges were ever brought again...
