Fire rips through Richmond Hill townhome complex – Toronto CityNews

A fire ripped through a home complex in Richmond Hill early Saturday morning. Emergency crews were called to the building along Glen Meadow Lane in the Bayview and 19th Avenues area just before 5 a.m. Firefighters were able to stop the fire from spreading throughout the complex, but it caused serious damage to at least three units. At least one unit collapsed, a second partially collapsed, and a third sustained fire damage. The townhouse complex was under construction at the time of the fire, so it was not occupied. No injuries have been reported. Deputy Fire Chief Brian Ellsworth says the contractor and owners are cooperating with the investigation and said it is too early to determine the cause of the fire. Nearly 900 homes and businesses have lost power in Richmond Hill after a crash in the Leslie Street and Bur Oak Avenue area. The blackout comes after a major crash at Leslie Street and Princeton Avenue just before 9 p.m. Injuries were reported but no further details are available. York Regional police says two vehicles were involved in the crash that damaged hydro poles. Staff Sgt. Marc Hilliker says drivers are cautioned to avoid the area as hydro crews work to fix live wires on the ground. Roads will be closed from Elgin Mills to Major Mackenzie Drive. on Leslie Street, Electricity supplier Alectra estimates all power should be restored by 5 a.m.
