Infinity is a great open source option for browsing Reddit on Android

Earlier this year, I wrote about Comet, a great third-party Reddit app for iOS. As much as I like Comet, it's an iOS-exclusive affair and I use Android for the most part. Aside from the Reddit app itself, there aren't many cross-platform Reddit apps (Slide and Bacon Reader come to mind). While all of these apps are good, one Android Reddit app, in particular, stands out above the rest: Infinity for Reddit. What attracted me to Infinity in the first place was that it is open source. Over the past few months, I've come across a bit of an open source kick - open source apps offer some benefits over closed source apps and I've come across some amazing open source alternatives to the apps I use often. One of the main benefits, and I think it should be of value to everyone, is that open...

Vegan mom faces backlash over ‘ridiculous’ babysitting demands

A mom is facing backlash after sharing her list of demands for a new babysitter. The woman, who remains unidentified, shared her ad for a vegan-only caregiver on Facebook. It was later posted on Reddit’s Choosing Beggars page, a forum dedicated to overly “picky” requests. The mom’s ad offered just $100 per week, but asked for an applicant willing to work from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day.She also asked that the babysitter provide their own food, but noted that they could only cook “vegan organic” dishes. That demand, plus the mom’s low price, sent Reddit users into a frenzy.‘This lady is insane’The Facebook ad went on to explain that the babysitter should be willing to “work weekends with no notice.” The mom didn’t specify if the sitter would be paid...

Casual harp session turns into a scene out of a Disney movie

Some moments are so surreal, they seem like they could be straight out of a movie. That’s what musician Naomi Silver-Vézina thought when she recorded a practice session outside near a wooded area. As she plays the harp, a deer is seen wandering in the background and suddenly becomes captivated with the music.Silver-Vézina shared the video on Reddit.According to Silver-Vézina, she knew the deer was grazing in the background before she started playing “The Sound of Silence” by Simon and Garfunkel. Although she never looks up from her instrument, she said she could hear it moving towards her and actually thought it might attack.“I was definitely the deer in headlights in this situation…” she joked. As Silver-Vézina continues playing in the video, the...

These best friends were given a 2 percent survival rate at birth — now, they’re graduating high school together

Odin Frost and Jordon Granberry were facing long odds. Both were born with conditions that would, at best, make their lives far more difficult than other kids. At birth, they were given around a 2 percent chance of survival. The two men, now 18, strutted across the stage as they graduated from high school.Jordon, who suffered brain damage due to a lack of oxygen and Odin, who is non-verbal autistic, first met when they were three years old, according to KXAS-TV. Odin’s dad, Tim Frost, told the outlet had a memorable first encounter.“Jordon had just bit Odin, and Odin retaliated by pinchin...

‘Slide for Reddit’ removed from Play Store over impersonation claims

Unofficial open-source Reddit app Slide has been removed from the Google Play Store, according to a Reddit post from the app’s developer. Android Police says the claim for the app’s removal from Google’s mobile store relates to an impersonation violation based on its intellectual property policy. The issue could pertain to that the app’s name, ‘Slide for Reddit,’ even though the app is a Reddit client. This isn’t the first time Google has gone through this song and dance with Slide. Currently, the app’s developer, Carlos Crane, hasn’t heard anything back from Google on its explanation of the removal. He remains optimistic and is hoping to have Slide back up as soon as possible. “Google bots have struck again and Slide is temporaril...
