EDITORIAL: Priorities for the Canadian Armed Forces

Last week, General Jonathan Vance announced he would be stepping down from his position as Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), the top solider post in the country.Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has already launched a process to seek a replacement. There are many qualifications required for the job.There are also those who will say the next CDS needs to be a woman. There are several highly experienced women in the CAF who would indeed be a good fit for the post. That said, we don’t believe that gender should be one of the top reasons for fulfilling such an important post.But before we talk about who should fill the job, we should first discuss what we want out of our Canadian Armed Forces.
