Winnipeg Jets legend Dale Hawerchuk dies after battle with cancer – The Canadian News

Former NHL star and Hockey Hall of Famer Dale Hawerchuk has passed away after battling stomach cancer, his son Eric confirmed today on social media. He was 57 years old. Hawerchuk spent nine of his 16 seasons with the original Winnipeg Jets. He also dressed for Buffalo, St. Louis, and Philadelphia. A free-wheeling center, he scored 518 goals and 891 assists in 1,188 regular-season games and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2001. Hawerchuk took a leave of absence from his coaching duties with the OHL Barrie Colts in September 2019 after his diagnosis. With files from Sportsnet staff
