Carles Puigdemont will stop presiding Junts per Catalunya

  • He encourages anyone with “demonstrated leadership ability” to succeed him

The ‘former president’ Carles Puigdemont has announced to the militants of Junts per Catalunya his decision to stop presiding over the party. In a letter to the associates, Puigdemont argues that the party needs “a more involved presidency than I have not been.”

In this sense, he points out that the position he has held since Junts was founded two years ago should be filled by someone who “permanently participates” in meetings and decisions. For this reason, and as EL PERIÓDICO reported, Puigdemont formally announces that he will not stand for re-election.

In the text, the ‘ex-president’ praises the figure of the still general secretary, Jordi Sànchez, who will not repeat the position either. And he concludes by emphasizing that Junts is his party, from which he assumes its “postulates” and a way of organizing itself that is neither vertical nor “single thought”.

Puigdemont, without giving clues, encourages people who “have proven leadership skills” to take the step to assume the presidency of the formation.
