The United States Capitol Police Detained Man Carrying Prohibited Weapons – including a bayonet and a machete – in a van scrawled with symbols of white supremacy who was in front of the headquarters of the Democratic National Committee (DNC)the department reported Monday.
The last: The driver, Donald Craighead, 44, of Oceanside, California, told the policemen who were “on patrol” and started talking about white supremacist ideology, reported the United States Capitol Police. Craighead was arrested on charges of possession of prohibited weapons.
What do they say? The van had “a swastika and other symbols of white supremacy painted on it.”, according to the Capitol Police. It also featured a picture of an American flag in place of the license plate.
- A Special Operations Division agent observed Craighead’s vehicle, a Dodge Dakota pickup, around midnight, the department said.
- “This is good police work, plain and simple,” Capitol Police Chief Tom Manger said in a statement.
- Capitol Police added that it was not yet clear if Craighead “planned to attend any upcoming demonstrations or if he has ties to any previous cases in the area.”
- Manger reported that a fence will be built around the Capitol before that rally.
