Canada’s GDP grew 5.4% in the third quarter

The Canadian economy grew 5.4% in the third quarter compared to the same period last year, after a setback in the previous quarter, according to data published Tuesday by the official statistics institute.

This rise, higher than expected by analysts, is mainly due to the increase in household spending and the growth of exports.

Families and companies “resumed their normal activities” with the lifting of sanitary restrictions, which explains the growth in GDP, Statistique Canada said in a statement.

Exports, on the other hand, grew in the third quarter “stimulated in particular by those of crude oil”.
