Canada’s Catholic Bishops Apologize for Residential Schools

The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) on Friday afternoon recognized “the suffering experienced in residential schools” native to Canada.

At the end of its annual meeting, the CCCB issued a statement formally apologizing for “the serious abuses that have been committed by some members of the [la] Catholic community ”.

“We are fully engaged in the process of healing and reconciliation,” it wrote in the statement released Friday at 3:00 p.m.

CCCB says an indigenous delegation, made up of survivors, elders, knowledge keepers and youth, will meet with the Pope Francis in Rome in December 2021.
