Canada summons Russian ambassador to Ottawa over possible war crimes in Ukraine


Canada on Wednesday summoned the Russian ambassador to Ottawa to show him the “shocking” images of murders in Bucha, Ukraineand asked the International Criminal Court speed up the investigation into accusations of war crimes.

Canada’s Foreign Minister, Melanie Joyhe told reporters in Brussels, prior to a meeting of the NATOwho “instructed” his deputy minister to “summon the ambassador of Russia in Ottawa to make sure he is presented with footage of what happened in Bucha.

According to the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, Iryna Venediktovathe bodies of 410 civilians were found in Bucha and other territories of the region of Kyivrecently recovered by the Ukrainian troops.

Moscow denied having killed civilians in Bucha, and both the Kremlin and the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrovsaying they are “forgeries” and staged for the press.

Ottawa also sent personnel from the Royal Canadian Gendarmerie (federal police) to the International Criminal Court to collect possible evidence of war crimes committed in Ukraine.
