Britney Spears ‘in the cloud’ after her father was suspended from guardianship

LOS ANGELES – The guardianship that has controlled Britney Spears’ life for 13 years came to a possible end Wednesday after a judge suspended her father, and the pop superstar later said she was “on cloud 9. at this time”.

In a three-hour contentious hearing, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Brenda Penny removed Jamie Spears from overseeing her daughter’s $ 60 million estate and set a date in November to discuss whether to rescind the entire settlement.

In an Instagram post after the judge’s ruling, the “Stronger” singer posted a video showing her sitting next to a pilot in the cockpit of a small plane and maneuvering the controls.

“First time flying in a plane and first time in a propeller plane !!! Geez, I was scared, ”she wrote, not mentioning guardianship.

In court, Penny removed Jamie Spears from office after the singer’s attorney said she didn’t want him involved for even one more day.

“The current situation is not sustainable. It reflects a toxic environment that requires the suspension of Jamie Spears, effective today, ”said Penny.

The judge said she would hold a hearing on November 12 to discuss a petition to terminate the guardianship that controls Britney Spears’ business and personal affairs.

Britney Spears, now 39, has been fighting for years to free herself from the legal settlement. She did not participate in the hearing on Wednesday.

“It’s a great day for Britney Spears and it’s a great day for justice,” the singer’s attorney, Mathew Rosengart, told #FreeBritney fans gathered outside the Los Angeles courthouse.

“Britney Spears has faced a decade-long nightmare, a Kafkaesque nightmare, orchestrated by her father and others,” Rosengart said.

Jamie Spears will be replaced by an accountant, John Zabel, on a temporary basis, Penny said.

Fans of #FreeBritney erupted in cheers as the judge’s ruling aired. Pop singer Cher tweeted: “I’m beyond excited with her. Bless our superstar. “

Jamie Spears had been in charge of her daughter’s business affairs since 2008, when she established a wide-ranging, court-approved guardianship after she suffered a mental breakdown. Details of Britney Spears’ mental health have never been revealed.

Rosengart said he envisions an orderly transition in which the guardianship could end before the end of the year. “It’s simple, it’s logical, it’s fair, it’s fair,” he told the judge.

Ironically, it was Jamie Spears who in early September reversed years of objections and abruptly called for an end to the guardianship. But he argued that he should stay in his role to smooth the transition.

Rosengart, however, demanded that Jamie Spears be immediately suspended.

“According to Britney Spears, her service has been abusive, it has been toxic and it has been cruel,” she said.

A New York Times documentary released last week alleged that security personnel working for her father had tapped into the singer’s phone and room. Conversations with friends, their children and their former attorney were monitored, said a former member of the security staff.

Jamie Spears has said that his actions were within his authority as a conservator. “Mr. Spears has served faithfully and loyally as a court-appointed conservator for 13 years. Her record is impeccable,” her attorney Vivian Thoreen said Wednesday.

Spears stepped up her efforts in June to free herself from guardianship, telling the judge in her first public comments that she wanted her life back.

Public support, aided by three documentaries, has increased.

Two weeks ago Britney Spears announced her engagement to 27-year-old Sam Asghari, her personal trainer boyfriend of more than four years. The couple hope to marry after negotiating a prenuptial agreement.
