Brampton man charged in alleged street racing crash

A man faces charges following an alleged street racing crash that claimed the life of a 29-year-old Brampton man.

OPP officers have been searching since April 9 for the driver of a Honda S2000 after a crash on Hwy. 427, near Finch Ave., that killed another motorist who was ejected from another vehicle.

The Honda S2000 fled the scene as police and emergency responders arrived, according to the OPP.

Police released video of the Honda and are also looking for a passenger who was in the car.

“The two occupants in this vehicle stopped momentarily at the scene of the crash and then fled as police and emergency providers were arriving,” Sgt. Kerry Schmidt alleged on Twitter.

“We do believe that the three people were known to one another, and I can tell you this morning the driver from this vehicle was arrested and is now facing a list of charges.”

Harison Wijayawick, 26 from Brampton has been charged with dangerous driving causing death and failing to remain at the scene of a collision that resulted in death.

The investigation is ongoing.
