Boris Johnson, Justin Trudeau and Jonas Gahr Store congratulate Macron on his electoral victory in France


British Prime Minister Boris Johnson; Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store congratulated Emmanuel Macron on his victory in the second round of the French presidential election.

Johnson highlighted the close relationship between France and the UK. “Congratulations to Emmanuel Macron on his re-election as President of France,” Johnson said in a message posted on his Twitter account.

“France is one of our closest and most important allies. I look forward to continuing to work together on the issues that matter most to our countries and to the world,” said the Briton.



Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has also joined in the congratulations. “Congratulations. I look forward to continuing to work together on the issues that matter most to Canadians and French people, from defending democracy to fighting climate change to creating good jobs and economic growth for the middle class,” the Canadian said on Twitter.



Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store stressed that France has opted for “liberal democracy instead of the extreme right” and has highlighted unifying the French and “taking courageous action for the climate” as challenges for the future. Store also opted for greater cooperation in Europe and “unity against authoritarian forces and war.”



Macron has prevailed in the second round of elections against his rival, the far-right Marine Le Pen, with 58.2 percent of the vote, according to projections of the real vote published by French public television. Le Pen has thus achieved 41.8 percent of the vote.
